In children and adolescents, these teeth have not completed their development and are called germs (the procedure is called &#8220;germectomy&#8221;). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Wisdom teeth are often removed for one or more of the following reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Persistent and\/or recurrent pain and\/or infection  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Caries damage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Damage to adjacent teeth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Damage to surrounding tissue (swollen gums, biting\/traumatized cheeks, bone lesions)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty in cleaning due to their position and\/or orientation in the mouth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lack of space at the back of the mouth to allow straight eruption: risk of disturbing the proper alignment of teeth in children and adolescents (often indicated by the orthodontist).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>X-rays and a clinical examination are the best way to determine whether your wisdom teeth need to be removed. If you are also undergoing orthodontic treatment, the decision will be made jointly with your orthodontist.
